Wow, what a difficult decision for you! Choosing to continue your pregnancy may have been an extremely difficult decision for you. Even if you feel strongly that you are going to continue this pregnancy, the decisions are just beginning. Pregnancy opens up a whole new world of opportunities and challenges of what to consider for you and this child. Fortunately there is time and help available for you to begin to make important decisions for you and your child.
The decisions you make in the next nine months will impact the rest of your life
One thing to consider is who will be a part of making these decisions for your baby? Is there a significant other, a mother, an aunt or a close friend who will walk you through this journey? As mentioned before as soon as people find out you are pregnant, they will have an opinion all their own as to whether you should keep the baby or place the child for adoption, breast-feed or bottle feed, what should the nursery look like or what you should name the baby. While it may be helpful to have a family member or close friend assist you with these decisions, it often becomes overwhelming and tiresome.
Ultimately YOU are the one to make the decisions and, ultimately, YOU have to decide if you are going to take on the responsibility of parenting this child or is someone else going to parent this child.
Maybe becoming a parent excites you and you have already figured out how you are going to care for the child while pursuing your educational or career goals. If not, that is okay! Most women and their partners go through a range of emotions once discovering their pregnancy. The decisions you make in the next nine months will impact the rest of your life. If you decide to parent or if you decide to choose someone else to parent your child, you have a tremendous amount of responsibility in making the best decision possible for you and your baby.
