Where am I?

becoming a parent

Consider This: consider this, dad

We often focus on the woman when it comes to pregnancy. After all, the woman carries the baby, deals with morning sickness, weight gain, etc. However, you are a critical part of this pregnancy and should be involved in considering options and making plans for the baby. You have a responsibility to this child and rights as a father.

  • Have you thought about how this pregnancy might be impacting the baby’s mom?
  • Have you tried talking to her about how she is feeling?
  • What are you feeling?
  • Do you have someone to talk to about this?
  • Have you offered to support her through the pregnancy and decision making process?
  • Have you told her that you will be a part of the child’s life?
  • Are you worried about how this pregnancy will impact your future?

Fathers are an important part of their children’s lives. Fathers can contribute so much more than child support. Did you know that when both parents are involved in a child’s life, children are less likely to drop out of high school, less likely to use drugs, less likely to end up in jail, less likely to experience teen pregnancy, more likely to have a sense of belonging and more likely to earn more money when they grow up? Father involvement makes quite an impact!!

Get Real with Yourself is a pregnancy education program that provides services to expectant moms and dads. If you are interested in talking to someone about a pregnancy situation, call or email a professional at 1-877-747-REAL or GetReal@lfcs.org.
