Looking at what is in the best interests of your child and placing the child’s needs before your needs is an incredible act of courage and selflessness. Preparing for an adoption plan includes talking with a counselor about what feelings you might experience during the process and after the adoption, saying goodbye to the baby, talking about what you want your hospital stay to look like, discussing what your friends or family might say about the adoption and selecting the best adoptive family for your child.
Throughout this process, it is common to have feelings of doubt and sadness. Those are normal feelings that occur as you consider saying good-bye to your child. Some people try to block out those feelings, but it is healthier to deal with them, and to talk with your counselor about how to cope with those feelings so you can handle the loss you will experience in making an adoption plan. Very few women regret their decision to make an adoption plan. Women who express regrets about their decisions regarding an unplanned pregnancy state that they were unaware of certain information or felt pressured into making a decision without adequate time to consider all their options.
